Abstract

BONAMINIO, Vincenzo. Not to interpret: some considerations on M. Balint and two clinical fragments. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2008, vol.42, n.1, pp. 172-186. ISSN 0486-641X.

In this paper two dreams from two diff erent clinical instances are presented. According to the author, these exemplify the potential interference that, in certain conditions and in certain moments of the analysis, the analyst’s interpretive activity may represent with regard to the analysand’s creative and intimate processes. Subsequently, a route through some particular topical, though neglected, aspects of Balint’s work is propounded. So the author highlights a technical and clinical tradition which attributes the dignity of mutative agents of psychic change to the patient’s tolerance of regression and the analyst’s not interpreting, on a par with interpretation.

Keywords : Interpretation; Not-interpretation; Factors dressings; Regression; Psychic change; Winnicott; Balint.
