Abstract

GOULART, Adalberto. With uninhabited soul: reconsiderations on mourning and melancholy. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2008, vol.42, n.3, pp. 103-114. ISSN 0486-641X.

The author begins the text reminding us that Freud always sustained the thesis that psychoanalysis would be contained within the natural sciences, and that, although it is concerned with the relationship between body and psyche, it has given primary importance to the psychological aspects of the psychosoma. And so did the main authors who followed him. In the last decades, pressured by the predominance of more primitive psychopathologies, the somatic dimension has called the attention of more contemporary authors (Bion, Winnicott, McDougal, Green, & Fontes). The text was developed with the intent of highlighting the importance for analysts to understand the psychosoma as an integrated unity, which cannot be dissociated, else there are great disadvantages for a man’s system. Based on the hypothesis of Ferrari, the author also reconsiders mourning and melancholia, illustrating his thoughts with a clinical example.

Keywords : Mourning and melancholy; Psychossoma; Psychoanalysis.
