Abstract

FRANCO FILHO, Odilon de Mello. The culture of uneasiness on account of unhappines. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2009, vol.43, n.2, pp. 183-192. ISSN 0486-641X.

The subject of this work is Happiness. This subject has already approached by Freud. However, nowadays, it seems to have vanish from psychoanalytical literature and from the concern of thinkers, in general. Many different notions have been attributed to the question of Happiness through the years and they reflect the culture of the times. At the present time, the idea of Happiness carries hedonist notions that end up by considering that uneasiness and suffering must be banished in the name of Happiness to be attained at any cost. Consequently, new efforts appear to engage psychoanalysis in the fight for the banishment of suffering. Therefore, we are at risk of disqualifying psychoanalysis and transforming it in consumer’s goods.

Keywords : Happiness; Psychoanalysis and culture; Hedonism; Contemporaneity; Cure.
