The paper presents a brief clinical vignette. This vignette illustrates what the author proposes as one of Ferencziís most important contributions in relation to the theory of psychoanalytical technique. The author suggests that, in difficult cases, such as borderline patients, the maintenance of the classical setting might jeopardize the evolution and survival of the treatment, as there are high chances that the patient might experience this as a reproduction of the traumata that made him/her sick.
