Attention to the frames and narrative levels of the analytic text, and in particular to the rhetorical device of metalepsis as a figure of the violation of diegetic levels, in accordance with the principles of narratology, can be a valuable conceptual instrument for delimiting the structure and function of transference interpretation. It can also cast a light on the associated matters of narrative construction, reality and the conceptualization and communication of clinical facts.
