Abstract

LISONDO, Alicia Beatriz Dorado de. Reverie revisited. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2010, vol.44, n.4, pp. 67-84. ISSN 0486-641X.

The alpha dream work is a primary and permanent function of psychism. It allows the creation of pictograms which provide figurability to metabolise emotional experiences. This theory revolutionizes the psychoanalytical Techné. Reverie is the key concept that distinguishes and enlightens object-relations. It is originated in a transgenerational history. The pregnant mother is involved in a bond with her mother and her baby. In prenatal psychism and in the first years of the child's life, the mother retreats from the external world in order to invest her attention in her relationship with the child. The analyst carries out with the patient the alfa function and the alfa dream work instead of reverie, for the analyst didn't share with the patient a bodily - unless metaphorical - gestation. The function of the reverie in the constitution of the mind and its multiple functions are highlighted: the transit through ceasure; matrix of catastrophic change; experience of continuity in transformations; function of reclamation (Alvarez, 1992); teaches the experience of passion; allows the work of figurability (Botella, 2007); initiates the mind's K activity; inspires tolerance of frustration; summons hope and faith; in its artistic perspective, culture exerts an equivalent function to the reverie. Clinical vignettes illustrate the theory.

Keywords : alfa dream work; reverie; constitution of the mind; genesis of reverie; functions of reverie; psychoanalytical technique.
