Abstract

SANCHES, Pedro Rodrigo Peñuela. Alterity in Freud's concepts of desire and drive. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2010, vol.44, n.4, pp. 97-108. ISSN 0486-641X.

The article at hand aims to retake the freudian construction of the concepts of desire and drive, proposing an interpretation of these from the possibilities that each one offers for the approach of the problem of alterity in Freud. In discussion shall be the idea that desire supposes a certain kind of solipsism which can only be deconstructed within the Freudian work itself, from the developments attributed to the concept of drive. Finally, the author intends to expose some clinical problems present in Freudian theories about the clinic, pointing out a possible engagement of these with a solipsistic clinic which wouldn't do justice to the radicalism of the idea of drive and of the epistemological and ethical positioning that this concept requires when interpreted through the prism of the notion of alterity.

Keywords : desire; drive; alterity; Freudian theory.
