Resumen

MACHADO, Sérgio Bacchi. Freud: normative ideal and criticism. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2011, vol.45, n.1, pp. 165-175. ISSN 0486-641X.

Taking into consideration the texts “Neurosis and psychosis” (Freud, 1924/1996c) and “The loss of reality in neurosis and psychosis” (Freud, 1924/1996e) , Freud's opinion in terms of the similarities and differences between psychoses and neuroses is taken into consideration in order to bound the concept of madness to a specific moment of this author's work. The present discourse, that considers Freud as upholding the normative ideal, is then contested. In order to do this, the main force lines described in “Civilized sexual morality and modern nervousness” (Freud, 1908/1996b) are mapped out with the aim of demonstrating Freud's strong criticism toward social morality and the adaptationist conceptions. These conceptions treat Society as being visible and complete. Finally, the value of Freud's thoughts concerning social normalization is highlighted.

Palabras clave : Freud; normative ideal; morality.
