Exploring central concepts of Psychoanalysis is the theme of the IPA International Congress, in Mexico. Among other subjects, the congress will discuss the reports elaborated by four different analysts (Kancyper, Salomonsson, Kulish e Roussillon), each from varying regions, and having differing theoretical viewpoints on sexuality. This commentary initially analyses the questions directed to the analysts, indicating that these point to the interest in exploring the focus, or lack thereof, on infantile sexuality in the current psychoanalytic clinic. In all four reports, the numerous changes which have occurred regarding the theme are noted, with particular attention to the comprehension of the non-sexual aspects present, which have become the focus of psychoanalytic investigation of some branches of study. These aspects are debated; including the controversy resulted from these changes. This commentary intends to show how sexual and non-sexual aspects alternate dynamically and have a relationship of mutual support.
