Abstract

PERRINI, Edival Antonio Lessnau. The intensity of psychic life and its terrors in the psychoanalytic experience. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2011, vol.45, n.4, pp. 139-151. ISSN 0486-641X.

From the observation that some patients bring to the clinical experience a tangle of anguish, fear, discomfort, panic and terror, and that this frightening experience creates a "braking" system and detach-ment in the possibility of building links, the authorproposes an approximation to the "intensity of psychic life" of these people. The expression "intensity of psychic life" entails an acute and frightening experience, and is felt as an uncontrollable threat to the integrity of mind. By means of three clinical fragments and of a bibliographic revision that includes the thoughts of Freud, Klein and Bion, the author shows how the consideration of this "intensity" may bring the analysand closer to his terrors, allow their control in the analytical experience and enable the continuity of analysis.

Keywords : Intensity of psychic life; catastrophic change; caesura; links; emotional experience.
