Abstract

MONDRZAK, Viviane Sprinz. In defense of indispensable ethics. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2012, vol.46, n.1, pp. 17-26. ISSN 0486-641X.

The author reflects upon what her picture of an ideal ethical analyst would be, searching for "invariants in psychoanalytic ethics", the ones which inevitably characterize an ethical conduct in any time and culture. Among others, she emphasizes the capacity to care about the other and about the truth, and to maintain neutrality. A few aspects of neutrality are discussed in some detail, such as its essential characteristic as a qualifier of the psychoanalytic identity and the function of the analyst, mainly the (ethical) commitment to use suggestion in a specific way, abdicating from any form of authoritative power over the patient and using his position to help the patient make contact with his psychic reality, guaranteeing the possibility of the manifestation of the many internal voices in their versions, their fears and their arguments, leading to the possibility of better outcomes and negotiations. Some problems regarding the analyst's transgression are also discussed.

Keywords : ethics; neutrality; truth; transgression; otherness.
