Abstract

Bioethics emerged in the last century, within the 70's, as a cultural phenomenon which aimed at dealing with ethical challenges resulted from technological and scientific advances in medical and biological areas (biomedicine). Since its beginning bioethics emphasized that if there were two aspects of human culture (science and humanities) which seemed to be unable to talk to each other there should be a subject to keep up with scientific development within ethical surveillance. The text aims at characterizing the development of bioethics, as a subject, within a historical context and following a chronology. The outstanding events and the main theoretical principles are shown in its fundamental aspects and it ends describing the relation bioethics. It is understood that relation bioethics is part of the perception that every human being is in interaction for personal humanization occurs from the moment that the person is aware of social relationships.
