Abstract

FRANCA, Maria Thereza de Barros. From primary dread to protective fear: some considerations on terror, panic, phobia and fear in children. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2013, vol.47, n.1, pp. 52-66. ISSN 0486-641X.

The author examines the affects of panic, terror, phobia and fear by means of theoretical references and clinical illustrations taken from child analysis. Some correlations between psychiatry, neuroscience and psychoanalysis are established. Representation is suggested as a possible bridge for the transformation of primary dread into protective fear. The tale of Little Yellow Riding Hood is used as a guideline.

Keywords : terror; panic; phobia; fear; representation; figurability; child analysis.
