Abstract

CHAVARELLI, Maria de Fátima. Contemporaneity: reflecting with Olgária Chain Féres Matos. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2013, vol.47, n.2, pp. 39-45. ISSN 0486-641X.

The author develops her narrative drawing on the impressions that an interview with Olgária Chain Féres Matos brings out in her psyche. Pondering a certain discomfort between her thoughts and feelings about contemporaneity, she comments on the phenomenon of the speed of time - a hallmark of contemporaneity - contrasting it with the view of time held by Ancient Greeks. Expressing her belief that "therapy" is truly an antidote to the psychopathology of the contemporary world, she recounts her experience in education and develops a hypothesis on the matter of totemism today. She concludes that information technology has become the structuring axis of the world's organization and ethics, in a manner similar to the totemic organization among savages.

Keywords : contemporaneity; totemism and modernity; fast-paced temporality.
