Abstract

Based on Joyce McDougall's personal story, this article describes the path she took while studying in London and Paris. It emphasizes her openness toward different psychoanalytic currents and the influences of the exchanges she established with her contemporaries on the creation of her own concepts. It analyzes J. McDougall's main ideas on sexuality, perversion, psychosomatic development, somatizations and the originality of her concepts of normopathy, disaffectation, archaic hysteria, current psychosis.
