FULGENCIO, Leopoldo. The situation of primary narcissism according to Winnicott. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2013, vol.47, n.3, pp. 131-142. ISSN 0486-641X.

This article aims to show that Winnicott redescribed the notion of primary narcissism, based on Freud's ideas, but adding significant developments. According to Winnicott, the baby's most primitive relationships must take into account its extreme immaturity and its dependence on the environment, so that the assumption of a unit belonging to the baby wouldn't make any sense; such unit would rather correspond to the baby and the environment as a whole. Consequently, a dialog with Roussillon is suggested in order to oppose her idea that in primary narcissism the shadow of the primary object would fall on the self, to the statement that at the beginning there is no possible shadow of the object on the self because there is not a non-self reality. The purpose of these differences is to elucidate what type of transferential situation, what type of analytical objective to be achieved, is present in cases in which the patient and the analyst must go back to the primary narcissism situation.

Palavras-chave : primary narcissism; the shadow of the object; self; environment; adaptation.
