Abstract

BRITO, Giséle de Mattos. Love as a building element of continence in an Oedipal situation. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2013, vol.47, n.4, pp. 59-68. ISSN 0486-641X.

The author, through instigating clinical material, reflects on the role of love in the building of continence in the Oedipal situation. How does this love permeate the Oedipal triangle even at the beginning of the relationship between the mother and her baby? How would this present itself during analysis? The author takes the theory of Reverie, in which Bion draws attention to the mother's love for the father as an element which is transmitted to the baby. She extends this vertex by using Ogden's theory, which draws attention to the fact that, at this primitive stage in the development of the Oedipus Complex, both in the girl and in the boy, the triangular relationship happens between the baby and the mother. “The father is a libidinal object discovered in the mother”. The author links these theories to demonstrate how the analyst, to be encountered, enters as the “other” in the relationship.

Keywords : love; continence; oedipal situation; oedipal triangle; Oedipus complex.
