Abstract

HONDA, Helio. Some considerations on the role of Verleugnung in the clinical setting. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2013, vol.47, n.4, pp. 171-183. ISSN 0486-641X.

By resuming the Freudian concept of Verleugnung (disavowal), the author proposes a reading of excess interventions, like advice and comfort, made by the analyst in the clinical situation. He examines the role of advice and comfort in clinical interventions, reincorporates the concept of Verleugnung, and the problem that involves it in Freud's work, in order to propose a conceptual elaboration of those countertransferential occurrences. Finally, the author raises the hypothesis that such excess interventions, invariably unconsciously motivated, could be driven by anxieties evoked in the clinical situation. Therefore, as a fetish, they could be covering up an unbearable reality.

Keywords : Verleugnung; disavowal; fetishism; countertransference.
