From analysing a psychotic patient, the author seeks to debate how to form a mental apparatus that can symbolize, think, and relate itself to objects. Technical questions that support ideas developed by the author in the paper will be considered. Bion's idea of alpha function is also taken into account, as well as reverie and the development of thoughts. Some post Bion authors who have written about the capacity to think thoughts and to create symbols are also taken into consideration. Regaining past experiences by forming a psychic apparatus enables the patient to access symbolic thinking. Discussion about transferential and countertransferential relationship aims at enabling the understanding of the development of presented ideas and the evolution of analytical process.
