Abstract

MELICIAS, Ana Belchior. Pátria, mátria, frátria: constructing an emotional geography. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2017, vol.51, n.1, pp. 61-74. ISSN 0486-641X.

The author's purpose in this paper is to elaborate the narrative of an emotional geography by recounting a life journey across three continents. The author makes use of Freud's definition of uncanny and Meltzer's concept of aesthetic conflict in order to analyze the external experience of the traumatic violence of losing the country of birth. According to this author, unavoidable disruptions of involuntary migration have happened while the sense of belonging and identity has been internally developed. Homeland, exile and language/culture are the three intra and inter-subjective axes around which the author develops her narrative. She writes about the way tragedy of fate may turn into a potential space of creativity towards catastrophic losses.

Keywords : homeland; fatherland; exile; migration; uncanny; aesthetic conflict.
