Abstract

COSTA, Gley Silva de Pacheco. Contemporary psychoanalytic practice: psychoanalysis of patients in transit. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2017, vol.51, n.2, pp. 167-178. ISSN 0486-641X.

The author reports the change he has observed in his practice for the past 15 years. This change is regarding an increasing number of patients who have in common the lacking definition of their symptoms. They also have been shown to make either a little or no subjective reflection about their suffering. In most cases, they are professionals who earn significant salaries and spend most of their time in transit because of their jobs. This situation requires some technical adjustments in order to keep their treatment going. Besides characterizing the group of patients on whom this study is focused, the author describes the clinical condition, makes considerations about the technical and theoretical aspects, presents one typical clinical case, and, finally, concludes this paper by wondering about the cause(s) of this change which challenges the contemporary psychoanalysis.

Keywords : contemporary psychoanalytical clinical; contemporary metapsychology; psychoanalytic technique; internal setting.
