Abstract

LIMA, Juliana Lang. From noun to verb: formulations on the mourning in the contemporary clinic. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2018, vol.52, n.4, pp. 129-140. ISSN 0486-641X.

The writing is a proposal of understanding the contemporary man and the griefs he needs to experience throughout his path. The author starts from the hypothesis that the present mourning has certain singularities which could differentiate it from past manifestations. In a general way, it points to the 21st century analysand's mourning as something that is not clearly and precisely shown in the clinical practice, something that is more perceptible through symptoms, such as feelings of emptiness and depression, than as a natural process of life. When the author offers a new approach between mourning and melancholy by including there a third vertex (depression), her purpose is to defend the idea that human suffering today is often linked to a crisis in human ideals. The difficulty of relating to the passage of time amplifies this crisis.

Keywords : mourning; depression; loss of ideals; passage of time.
