The author writes, as a preamble to Gustavo Soares's and Samyra Assad's writings about the professionalization, a brief history of the several steps in dealing with this matter until the creation of the movement “Linkage among Brazilian Psychoanalytic Entities” in 2000. The author reports the process of fighting for professionalization and the construction of a unity which has enabled the partnership with culture and political instances in order to defend the field and the psychoanalytic practice.
