Abstract

SANTOS, Janderson Farias Silvestre dos  and  MIGLIAVACCA, Eva Maria. Conceptual reflections on the metapsychology of the suicide of the melancholic. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2019, vol.53, n.4, pp. 117-132. ISSN 0486-641X.

Melancholy is known as a lethal potentiality that often manifests itself in acts of self-destruction. The melancholic subject seems to be in constant flirtation with death and with the possibility of jumping into the abyss of nonexistence. The suicide of the melancholic is deeply connected to the way in which the bonds of the subject are formed with the ineluctable experiences of life and, especially, how he or she assimilates life's losses. In this work, we discuss, from metapsychological reflections, which components of the melancholic psychic constitution can lead to self - destruction, making an articulation between the concepts of manic repair and the work of melancholy. To do so, we made use of theories of Freud and Klein, articulated with contributions of contemporary authors. We also present, throughout the theoretical discussion, in order to exemplify the theory discussed, clippings of the work of the Portuguese poet Florbela Espanca, killed herself in the 1930s.

Keywords : suicide; melancholy; metapsychology; psychoanalysis.
