LEVINZON, Gina Khafif. Negative transference and interpretation: with whom are we communicating?. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2020, vol.54, n.2, pp. 160-176. ISSN 0486-641X.

This paper discusses the role and nature of the interpretative activity in moments of intense negative transference, based on the analysis of two teenagers with antisocial behavior, counseled at different times of the analyst's clinical experience. The analyst's capability for continence and the understanding of the patient's symbolic thinking are essential elements in considering the type of intervention to be taken. The quest for "magical interpretation," which should disrupt hostility toward the analyst, gives rise to the need of containing the turbulence provided by the patient, in order to improve verbal communication. Insistence on interpreting may increase negative transference. In such cases, the handling of the analytical situation comes first, until conditions are created for the pair to function again in harmony.

Palavras-chave : interpretation; transfer; antisocial behavior; psychoanalytical technique.
