Abstract

AZEVEDO, Guilherme Magnoler Guedes de  and  AMARAL, Henrique Uva do. Theory of seduction: rise and fall or The emergence of Oedipus. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2021, vol.55, n.2, pp. 149-164. ISSN 0486-641X.

The abandonment of the theory of seduction was essential to the development of psychoanalysis, considering that it enabled the discovery of unconscious fantasies and of the infant sexuality. Having this as basis, the objective of this article is to analyse, through the correspondence between Freud to Fliess, which reasons led Freud to defend his Theory of Seduction and, later on, reject it. Furthermore, we try to demonstrate that, as the author acquires a wider comprehension about the notion of psychic reality and the childhood impulses, this path led him straight to Oedipus.

Keywords : theory of seduction; infantile sexuality; trauma; fantasy; Oedipus complex.
