RIQUELME, Christian E. Salas. Concreteness and Neuropsychological Rehabilitation. Cuad. neuropsicol. [online]. 2012, vol.6, n.2, pp. 59-68. ISSN 0718-4123.  http://dx.doi.org/10.7714/cnps/6.2.205.

This paper surveys the issue of concrete behaviour after brain injury -a widely recognized phenomenon in clinical contexts, although surprisingly under-investigated. Using the classic definition offered by Kurt Goldstein, which characterizes concreteness as a difficulty to detach from immediate experience, this article suggests that concrete behaviour may imply shrinkage in the temporal and reflective dimensions of the Self. Examples on how such change might impact the rehabilitation process are outlined, specifically in relation to key capacities, such as self-awareness and insight.

Palavras-chave : concreteness; concrete thinking; abstraction; brain injury; frontal lobe; neuropsychological rehabilitation.
