Resumen

BRUNO, Mariano; BASABILBASO, Jésica  y  CURSACK, Camila. A Research Review about Neuroscientific studies of obsessive compulsive disorder Abstract. Cuad. neuropsicol. [online]. 2013, vol.7, n.1, pp. 38-49. ISSN 0718-4123.  http://dx.doi.org/10.7714/cnps/7.1.202.

This work consists of a revision on the latest research done about the obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). As regards this, we begin by exposing the orbitofronto- striatal model which is proposed as an explanation to this disorder. Moreover, are also reviewed research that suggests alterations in the cortico-striatal circuit may explain the compulsions present in this disorder. After this, we go deep into a series of studies that expand the model with the addition of other brain regions to explain the manifestations of the disorder. In this sense, recent research shows that structures of the limbic system, as they are for example, the amygdala and the hippocampus, have a fundamental participation in the development of the cognitive and affective symptoms, which are characteristic of the OCD. Finally, this review leads to the conclusion that there are significant advances in the explanation of OCD. However, a deeper research on this topic is worth to be done in the near future.
