RUBIALES, Josefina; BAKKER, Liliana  y  URQUIJO, Sebastián. Comparative study of inhibitory control and cognitive flexibility in children with Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Cuad. neuropsicol. [online]. 2013, vol.7, n.1, pp. 50-69. ISSN 0718-4123.  http://dx.doi.org/10.7714/cnps/7.1.203.

The Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is defined as a persistent pattern of symptoms of inattention and / or hyperactivity-impulsivity that is more frequent and severe than is typically observed in individuals with a similar level of development. The aim of this study was to assess cognitive flexibility and inhibitory control in children with and without ADHD. The sample was composed by 60 children of ages between 8 and 14 years old from Mar del Plata city, Argentina, divided into two groups: the clinical sample included 30 children diagnosed with ADHD and the control sample included 30 healthy children. In order to assess cognitive flexibility the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test was used. To assess inhibitory control both the Stroop Words and Colors Test and two go/no-go tests were used. Children with ADHD showed lower performance on all cognitive flexibility variables, cognitive and motor inhibition, from which we conclude that ADHD is characterized as a disorder with an own cognitive style and distinctive, with a lower cognitive flexibility, a lower inhibitory control, and an specific difficulty of motor inhibition.
