Abstract

BELMAR, Daniela et al. Post traumatic stress, locus of control and fatalism in adults following the february 27th earthquake in Angol. Salud & Sociedad [online]. 2012, vol.3, n.1, pp. 10-18. ISSN 0718-7475.

The present study was aimed at exploring possible associations between post traumatic stress scores and locus of control and fatalism scores, in a sample of 30 adults from Angol, following the Feb. 2010 earthquake in Chile. Also, possible statistical differences were explored between post traumatic stress, and the amount and sev erity of material and human losses caused by the earthquake. A statistically significant correlation was found between post traumatic stress and fatalism (p <0, 05); whereas, no direct significant correlation was found between post traumatic stress and locus of control scores (p >0.05). Comparisons of post traumatic stress levels at different levels of loss, yielded no statistically signific ant differences (p >0.05). These results are discussed in the context of previous findings.

Keywords : Earthquake; fatalism; locus of control; post traumatic stress.
