Abstract

CARNEIRO, Adriana Munhoz  and  BAPTISTA, Makilim Nunes. General health and depressive symptoms in undergraduate. Salud & Sociedad [online]. 2012, vol.3, n.2, pp. 166-178. ISSN 0718-7475.

The present study aimed to find evidence of validity based on the relationship with variables of the Depression Scale-EDEP with the General Health Questionnaire-GHQ-60, controlling for gender, age, socio-economic status, and history of mental illness in the family. A total of 98 students with a mean age of 25.8 years (SD = 7.72) were studied. Moderate correlations between instruments were found, indicating that the presence of common mental disorders is related to increased depressive symptoms. Furthermore, sex, age, social class and economic history of mental illness in the family did not differentiate the scores of general health and depressive symptoms.

Keywords : Depression; Mental health; Psychological testing; Validity.
