Political protest has become a usual phenomenon during the last years in Venezuela. Demonstrations, meetings, the rumbling sound of empty pans (so-called cacerolazos), and street obstruction has been some of these manifestations. Their dimensions and innovative forms of expression require its understanding and study. For this, my aim is to depict and characterized this political protest since 2001 to 2007, at the time when political conflict reaches a pick in the country. This article describes first the historical context of the protest since 1958, and then emphasizes the role played by the political changes from 1998, which encouraged social demonstrations and protest. Data on forms and frequency of protest are provided essentially by a NGO named PROVEA.
