We investigated the family experience of children from intact homes with both their parents separated, belonging to the socioeconomic strata III (Class Medium Low), IV (Relative Poverty) and V (Critical Poverty). The mother was the person valued and father created ambivalence in the homes intact and the separate mourn his absence. In households with the stratum IV separated parents, prevailed conflicts. Children from intact homes were emotionally resonant, despite the difficulties, as well as those who were stepfathers or whose parents, when they were still separate, still sharing housing. It is concluded that a family with both parents or appropriate surrogate figures produces a favorable effect on the child's development.
