Abstract

VISCO, Elina Nora Munoz de  and  BARBENZA, Claribel Morales de. del potencial humano mediante grupos de autoconocimiento y desarrollo personal. Altern. psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.15, n.23, pp. 02-13. ISSN 1405-339X.

This work investigates whether the groups of self-knowledge and personal development favor the increase of personality functional features, with the objective of providing a sample of students with an environment of therapeutical work where they can express their difficulties with respect to the period of adjustment to university liie, as well as generate a personel llfe project. The development of their own potentialities and project of lite are closely related to their seli-esteem, value judgment or dignity and the acceptance and appreciation ot personal characteristics. Hence the relevance attributed to the promotion of self-knowledge. Evidently, the young's functional and adaptive styles of personality and their level of hope are clearly related to their personal project of llie. As bonds -human interrelations inevitably weaved through tife-s-cen favor the discovery and development of potentialities and to mark limitations, the modality ot groups ot self-knowledge was adopted, using humanistic resources to foster changes. The sample was a close group of 15 femele freshmen aged between 15 and 23 years old. The work was carried out over eight sessions. Self-esteem was assessed by two instruments: Technique Q ot California, iii (Block, 1978) and self-esteem scale (Rosenberg, 1966). The level ot hope was tested by the Hope-hopelessness test (Pereyra, 1996). Personality styles were assessed by the Mlllon inventory of personality styles (Millon, 1997). The research was carried out in three stages. The first, in the pre-test stage, the techniques of psychological measurements were applied; the second, over the eight sessions of work with the group, resources favoring self-knowledge were epplied, and the third, in the post-test stage, the tectiniques of psychological measurements were epplied again in order to detect possible changes. The results show an increase in the scores related to self-esieem, to hope and to some of the scales associated with personality styles of motivation goals, cognitive styles and interpersonal behaviors.
