Abstract

HOFFMAN, Edward  and  ORTIZ, Fernando A.. Altern. psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.15, n.23, pp. 76-81. ISSN 1405-339X.

This article offers some practical suggestions for the use and integration of Abraham Maslow's concept of peak experiences in the psychotherapeutic work with addictions. Epidemiological studies suggest a serious epidemic problem of substance abuse in Mexico and most existing prevention and treatment programs are supported on deficit based methodologies. In the context of humanistic and positive psychology, the incorporation of peak experiences in psychotherapy represents a paradigm shift. We discuss some peak experience categories based on our empirical investigations and their relevance for the Mexican cultural context.
