The aim of this study was to identify the presence of perceived vs. BMI obesity and emotional problems and their relationship to academic achievement of college students of both sexes. We evaluated: self-concept, depression and anxiety took height and weight measurements to calculate BMI to a random sample of college students (n = 936: 628 -301 men and women-) with the appropriate written informed consent. Evaluations were performed as a group. The results showed the existence of perceived obesity even when contrasted with BMI, they found inconsistencies between these two constructs (self-perception of being malnourished or obese normal weight and obesity status self not perceived) and relationship between BMI and the variables emotional and BMI sex deference and self-concept factors. Results are discussed regarding the implications of these findings for this population.
