MARTINEZ MARTINEZ, Isabel M. y PINTO, Alexandra Marques. Burnout in university students and their relationship with academic variables. Aletheia [online]. 2005, n.21, pp. 21-30. ISSN 1413-0394.
Recently we witnessed the enlargement of burnout field of study: from an initial focus in human service professionals to a growing interest for other professional and pre-professional activities. In this context, the objective of the present paper is to analyse burnout in university students and to study its relationships with demographic variables, academic performance, expectations of success and withdrawal. A sample of 1988 university students from Spain and Portugal, responded to the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Student Survey (Schaufeli et al, 2000). Results revealed significant differences in burnout levels between femeal and male university students. Possible predictors of performance, expectations of success and withdrawal are also pointed out.
