SILVEIRA, Luiza Maria de O. Braga; PACHECO, Janaína; CRUZ, Thiago  and  SCHNEIDER, Andréia Almeida. Desirable and undesirable educative strategies: a comparison between the perception of fathers and mothers of adolescents. Aletheia [online]. 2005, n.21, pp. 31-42. ISSN 1413-0394.

This study aimed to compare socially desirable and undesirable child-rearing practices used by mothers and father of adolescents. The subjects were 20 fathers and 20 mothers of adolescents with ages between 15 and 19 years, who were students of private schools at metropolitan area of Porto Alegre (RS, Brazil). The measures were the Parents Report (Dibble & Cohen, 1974, Wagner, 2003) and a questionnaire to describe demographic data and family configuration. Significant differences were observed between fathers and mothers perceptions related to six of eight socially desirable categories of parental practices. No differences were found between socially undesirable categories of parental practices. These results were discussed associating the mother responsiveness and disciplinary exercise, as well as social network would likely support the family reducing the negative effects of socially undesirable categories of parental behavior.
