TEIXEIRA, Marco Antônio Pereira  y  LOPES, Franciella Maria de Melo. Relationships between parenting styles and human values: an exploratory study with university students. Aletheia [online]. 2005, n.22, pp. 51-62. ISSN 1413-0394.

The aim of this study was to explore possible relationships between perceived parental styles in adolescence (authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent and neglectful) and human values among young adults (using a retrospective evaluation of parental styles). Instruments used to assess parental styles and values were answered by 173 university students (aged 18-25 years). Analysis of variance showed significant differences in 8 out of 10 values assessed, suggesting that parenting styles may in fact be associated to the development of human values. Overall results indicated that authoritative and authoritarian styles were the most strongly associated to values in general (higher scores), while the neglectful style showed the weakest associations (lower scores). It is concluded that more research is needed to investigate in details the relationships between parenting styles and human values.

Palabras clave : Values; Parenting styles; Young adulthood.
