Abstract

MELLO NETO, Gustavo Adolfo Ramos; MARTINEZ, Viviana Carola Velasco; SANTOS, Fabrício Otoboni dos  and  SILVA JUNIOR, Mauricio Cardoso da. Anorexia and bulimia, their interfaces with hysteria and the psychoanalytical discourse. Aletheia [online]. 2006, n.23, pp. 101-111. ISSN 1413-0394.

This work discusses the possible connections between hysteria and the so called alimentary disturbances, which are wide-spread diseases nowadays. The authors’ discourses about anorexia and bulimia are presented and organized in thematic categories upon the definitions of anorexia and bulimia. The question that guided this study is whether anorexia and bulimia are new pathologies or new significations, or they are hysterical manifestations of the contemporary time. Psychoanalytical explanations and possible etiologies, as much as treatment proposals, are also part of the authors’ discourses. Finally is suggested a connection between hysteria and the alimentary disturbances, considering a hysterical mother oscillating between lack and excess in the dyadic bond.

Keywords : Anorexia; Bulimia; Hysteria.
