Abstract

This article shows that violence is a social and public health problem. This is a complex phenomenon and its investigation requires the attention of several areas of knowledge. Debate exists, but it isn"t enough to explain the different types of violence. Many acts are difficult to be accessed, for they occur in the privacy of “home sweet home”. Statistics point out the events, but there are no public policies or established prevention methods for the different types of violence. For this reason studies are necessary to prove their existence. Longing to understand the magnitude of violence in the scientific world. Violence may have a cycle, but where this cycle begins or ends is not known. Therefore, the cycle is maintained, with different justifications and explanations, but the incident is continuous. Thus it will be, until one day, health promotion can outline to the population what violence is and how it begins, then find means to educate and prevent its occurrence.
