MUNIZ, Monalisa  e  PRIMI, Ricardo. Emotional intelligence and job performance in policemen: criterion validity for the MSCEIT. Aletheia [online]. 2007, n.25, pp. 66-81. ISSN 1413-0394.

Emotional intelligence is a new construct and because of that has been a focus of criticism. One of them is the question of weather or not it is associated with job performance. Some researchers say that emotional intelligence is associated with job performance but there is no enough evidence on this point. Then the aim of this study was to investigate criterion validity evidence for the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT) to predict police men job performance. Participants were 80 State of São Paulo Policemen officers. They answered the MSCEIT and were rated by theirs superiors on two previous scales on job performance developed for this specific purpose. Results showed that Pictures, Facilitation, Changes and Emotional Management subscales were significantly associated with particular items of job performance. The data show positive test-criterion validity evidence for the MSCEIT.
