Abstract

SOUZA, Luciana Karine de  and  HUTZ, Claudio Simon. Friendship quality: Construct Validity of McGill Questionnaires. Aletheia [online]. 2007, n.25, pp. 82-96. ISSN 1413-0394.

This study presents the construct validity of the McGill Friendship Questionnaires for use with adults in Brazil. These assessments evaluate friendship quality via individual’s perceptions of the functions of a friend, friendship’s satisfaction, and positive and negative feelings related to the friend. Analyses showed equivalent factor structures for the six scales of the Friendship Functions Questionnaire, for the Friendship Satisfaction Scale, and the Negative Feelings towards the Friend Scale, considering factor loadings and item adequacy in the scales, as well as scales’ internal consistency. The Positive Feelings towards the Friend Scale will better evaluate the positive feelings without three items that are not semantically similar to the others.

Keywords : Friendship; Scales; Adults.
