Abstract

SOUZA, Nadir Helena Sanchotene de; WAGNER, Adriana; BRANCO, Bianca de Moraes  and  REICHERT, Claudete Bonatto. Dual-Career marriage in families with scool-age children: study cases. Aletheia [online]. 2007, n.26, pp. 109-121. ISSN 1413-0394.

This study aims to understand the functioning structure and dynamics of middle class and high class sociolcultural families with dual-career marriage and school-age children. We studied four families in a Multiple Case Study design (YIN, 1993), whose data was obtained by using the Family Structured Interview (EFE) (Féres-Carneiro, 1996), and a questionnaire, which investigated aspects of the functioning and structure of these families, to biodemographical data. Results suggest a tendency for women to be held responsible for the family well-being, especially domestic work. Men’s contribution appeared more intensely related to children care and some weekend leisure activities. In general, there was a tendency for one of the parents to place career above all and become granting him or her more power. Among all dimensions evaluated, husband and wife interaction was the dimension that showed unanimous decrease in investment.
