Resumen

MARTURANO, Edna Maria  y  GARDINAL, Elaine Cristina. A prospective study on daily hassles in first grade. Aletheia [online]. 2008, n.27, pp. 81-97. ISSN 1413-0394.

Based on a life-transition view of first grade, this study explored associations between achievement and behavior, measured in kindergarten and first grade, and children’s perceptions of first grade daily hassles in four domains: achievement, family-school relation, relationships with peers, and nonacademic demands. One hundred and ten children participated, as well as their kindergarten and first grade teachers. The instruments used were the School Hassles Inventory, the School Achievement Test, a reading task, the Teacher Report Form items for the assessment of children’s achievement, and a questionnaire for the assessment of children’s behavior. Higher achievement scores in kindergarten or first grade related to lower stress in first grade, in the domains of achievement and family-school relation. Children with high levels of behavior problems in first grade reported higher stress in all domains of their school daily life, when compared with children with low levels of behavior problems.

Palabras clave : Daily hassles; School transition; School achievement.
