Parental bringing-up practices can give rise to behavior problems in children. The aim of this study was to compare Parental Social Educational Skills (PSES) between two groups of parents: parents of preschoolers with behavior problems and parents of preschoolers with socially adequate behaviors. Mothers and fathers were also compared as to their PSES. Forty-eight couples participated. Twenty-four had a child with behavior problems at school (BP Group), and 24 had a child with good behavior (GB Group). Fathers and mothers answered an interview route assessing PSES. Parents of GB children tended to evaluate their own PSES more positively than parents of BP children: physical affection, agreement with the other parent, dependability. The mothers evaluated themselves as more skilled than the fathers did. The PSES which best discriminated the two groups were those related to consistency and positive affection.
