SOARES, Adriana Benevides; POUBEL, Lincoln Nunes  e  MELLO, Thatiana Valory dos Santos. Social skills and academic adaptation: a comparative study in public and private colleges. Aletheia [online]. 2009, n.30, pp. 213-227. ISSN 1413-0394.

This article aims to establish the relationship between social skills and experience necessary to adapt to the academic university context. The research was conducted with 200 students in the course of psychology in public and private institutions. The two instruments used (IHS-Del Prette, 2001; QVA, Almeida & Ferreira, 1997 adapted for the Brazilian population by Villar & Santos (2001), citado em Villar, 2003). Were used together in accordance with the rules of QVA. The results show that students from public institutions have better academic adjustment than the private institutions. We found correlations between academic adjustment and social skills. For students of public institutions social skills are related mainly to the personal and contextual dimensions and those of private institutions, with the scale of achievement.

Palavras-chave : Social skills; Academic adaptation; College students.
