Abstract

The objective of the study is to review the Brazilian literature about children's development problems in out patient clinics from 1980 to 2008, in order to verify if changes about developmental problems regarding the sex of the child occurred. The articles reviewed were from electronic data bases such as Bvs, Indexpsi, Lilacs, Pepsic e Scielo, using the key-words out patient clinics, children and child development, and summed 22 divided in three groups, according to data analyses performed. It was possible to identify the most frequent profile: boys, more than girls, present learning difficulties and externalizing problems. However, there are not inferential data to discriminate development problems regarding the sex of the child, which does not enables to conclude if such problems varied along time.
