Abstract

The goal of this paper was to develop a pre-experimental study using group motivational interviewing for the treatment of Binge Eating Disorder. The sample consists of 30 women, aged 34,73 on average, and with an average BMI of 37,30 Kg/m². During six meetings, 14 obese women with Binge Eating Disorder were assessed with the Binge Eating Scale, the Beck Depression Inventory and the Beck Anxiety Inventory in order to analyze the levels of Binge Eating Disorder, anxiety and depression before and after the intervention. The results showed that the three scales presented significant differences in significance level of 5% before and after the intervention using the Paired T-test. The paper concludes that motivational interviewing may be a good therapeutic intervention for the treatment of Binge Eating Disorder.
