SARRIERA, Jorge Castellá; FAVERO, Eveline; PARADISO, Ângela Carina  e  CALZA, Tiago Zanatta. World assumptions and personal well-being in Brazilian adolescents. Aletheia [online]. 2012, n.37, pp. 105-120. ISSN 1413-0394.

The world assumptions are part of a conceptual system developed during childhood which is refined and established throughout life. The present study investigates associations between world assumptions and personal well-being within 1.588 Brazilian adolescents, boys and girls, with ages between 12-16 years (M=14,13; DP=1,26). It was applied a questionnaire containing 16 items from World Assumptions Scale (WAS) as measure of beliefs and the Personal Well-Being Index (PWI-7) to evaluate well-being. The WAS had a Cronbach's alpha of 0,72 and the PWI-7, 0,81. The beliefs explain 30% of well-being, considering eigenvalue, self-control, kindness, justice and randomness items. It's noticeable the necessity to reevaluate the WAS items as well as the importance of promoting healthy environments and educational practices that stimulate the development of positive beliefs and strengthen the adolescent's well-being.
